Balikpapan – Kalimantan Institute of Technology held a discussion related to "Mapping the Potential of Science and Technology Resources (IPTEK) in East Kalimantan on (26/08/2022). The discussion took place in the LPPM meeting room of the Integrated Laboratory Building of the Kalimantan Institute of Technology. The activity was attended by representatives of study program lecturers at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology and also attended by BRIN representatives.

Dr. Moch Purwanto, S.Si., M.Si. (As the Head of LPPM ITK) explained the potential that exists in East Kalimantan. ITK itself currently has 5 majors and consists of 22 study programs. The study program at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology itself answers various challenges that exist in East Kalimantan. For the current number of ITK students until 2022 as many as 4,876, then for lecturers consisting of 9 doctoral, 226 masters, and 3 professors. For the trust of the industry itself, it has increased in the collaboration of more than 17 existing industries. Then always improve the skills of students and their education staff. Some that have been optimized in energy heresies are the use of tofu waste biogas, solar cells, methana at the Manggar landfill.

The energy research development plan itself has many targets at ITK. In addition to energy focuses on food technology and its development. The superior communities include pepper, oil palm, pineapple, rubber, coconut, dragon fruit, and so on. Then the literacy sector with several studies, namely coastal, utilization of marine resources, offshore, building concepts, ship test analysis. Related to discussing maritime potential, namely marine tourism and water buses, marina ports, sea routes and mapping, sea transportation, shipyards, and so on. The next focus of research is smart cities. This is because Balikpapan became the city of the capital and made the capital an advanced capital. ITK participated in supporting the 1000 stratup movement in Balikpapan in collaboration with KOMINFO.

ITK often holds workshops and collaborations. For now there are 286 domestic cooperation and 16 foreign cooperation. Of course, this cooperation and collaboration continues to be improved and developed. Brida's role in strengthening Regional Research and Innovation Dr. Wihatmoko Waskitoaji "The presence of BRIN itself to ITK is to cooperate and even ask ITK for help to conduct research and manage it". Regional development cannot be done passively alone, of course, the greatest potential is to optimize existing human resources, especially at universities in the regions to be able to prepare for existing regional development. The role of the teaching staff in it and students needs to work together and collaborate. The facility at BRIN itself has a collaboration center for research, development of technology-based companies (startups), and tests carried out.
