Depok – Chemical Security Program (CSP) and Sandia National Laboratories, USA continue to campaign for a culture of occupational safety in laboratories in various countries. Sandia's expert staff, Nancy B Jackson, who was the keynote speaker at the Asian Conference on Safety & Education in Laboratory (ACSEL) 1-2 December 2015 at the University of Indonesia, was also the sole speaker at the Workshop on Responsible Science Curriculum Development on 3-4 December 2015. Nancy B Jackson is a well-known figure among chemists. Nancy served as President of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in 2011.
This workshop was attended by 12 academics from various well-known universities, including M. Abdulkadir Martoprawiro (ITB / HKI), Prof. Sumi Hudiyono (UI), Prof. Fatma Lestari (UI), Rurini Retnowati (UB), Deden Saprudin (IPB), Ashadi Sasongko (ITK Balikpapan), Henry Tambunan (Ristekdikti) and several other academics. The academics formulated a science curriculum that not only contains expertise &skills but also pays attention to responsibility & awareness of the importance of safety & security, especially related to chemicals.
Some of the topics produced in this workshop are expected to be the content of the curriculum in universities in Indonesia. Among these topics are chemical handling, inventory systems, green chemistry, green agriculture, marine natural products, forest management and global impact. (ed)
