Balikpapan - The graduation ceremony at Institut Teknologi Kalimantan became even more meaningful with the inspiring story of Hendri Baransano, a recipient of the ADik Affirmative Higher Education Scholarship, who officially graduated as the first graduate from the Civil Engineering program.
In his representative speech for ADik students, Hendri shared his long journey as a student from eastern Indonesia. He came from a remote archipelagic region with limited access to education, yet carried a strong determination to study and change his future.
“This journey was not easy. There were moments of loneliness, homesickness, and even times when I wanted to give up. But I learned that limitations are not a reason to stop,” he said during the graduation ceremony.
During his studies at Institut Teknologi Kalimantan, Hendri described the campus as a second home that shaped him not only academically but also in character. Support from lecturers, friends, and the academic environment played a crucial role in helping him complete his studies.
He also expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as well as the entire academic community of ITK for the opportunity given to him.
Beyond graduation, Hendri emphasized the responsibility he carries as a representative of students from Eastern Indonesia. He is committed to returning to his hometown and contributing to regional development.
“I will not stop here. I will return, build, and be part of the change,” he affirmed.
The story of Hendri Baransano stands as a powerful reminder that access to higher education can open pathways of transformation for young people across Indonesia. With the spirit of “If not now, then when? If not us, then who?”, he inspires fellow graduates to move forward and contribute to the nation.
The graduation ceremony not only marks academic completion but also symbolizes the birth of new hope from Institut Teknologi Kalimantan in producing graduates who are excellent, resilient, and impactful for Indonesia.
