BALIKPAPAN – Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) received the Balikpapan Pos Education Partner Award during the commemoration of Balikpapan Pos’ 25th anniversary. The award was presented as recognition of ITK’s contribution as a higher education institution in supporting educational development and the dissemination of information to the public.

The award was received by ITK Rector, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc., as part of Balikpapan Pos’ 25th anniversary celebration. The recognition also highlights the importance of collaboration between universities and the media in supporting human resource development, strengthening public literacy, and expanding access to information on education and innovation.

Prof. Agus emphasized that the media plays a strategic role that extends beyond simply delivering news. Amid rapid digital transformation and the growing flow of information across various platforms, credible media outlets remain essential in providing reliable information and meaningful insight to the public.

“Mainstream media is still greatly needed by society today to provide enlightenment,” said Prof. Agus.

According to him, the role of the media is becoming increasingly important as Balikpapan and East Kalimantan continue to develop into strategic areas within Indonesia’s national development. The media can serve as a bridge connecting ideas, information, innovation, and various developments taking place across society.

For ITK, the Education Partner Award also reinforces the institution’s commitment to contributing through education, research, technological development, and innovation. Knowledge and innovations produced within the university are expected not only to remain within academic circles but also to reach and benefit the wider community.

Collaboration with the media is therefore an important part of this effort. Through accurate and accessible communication, information about university activities, achievements, research, and innovations can reach a broader audience and create greater public impact.

The award also serves as encouragement for ITK to continue strengthening its collaboration with Balikpapan Pos and other strategic partners in advancing education and supporting the development of Balikpapan and East Kalimantan.
