BALIKPAPAN – Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) marked 12 years of dedication to higher education through an Open Senate Session commemorating its 12th anniversary. The occasion served as an opportunity to reflect on the institution's achievements while reaffirming its commitment to advancing education, research, and innovation that contribute to national development.

Embracing the theme "Unity in Diversity: From ITK for the Archipelago," the 12th anniversary celebration was more than a commemoration of the university's establishment. It also reflected ITK's determination to continue growing as an adaptive, collaborative, and future-oriented institution of technology.

The Senate Session began with an academic procession, followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem and the ITK Hymn, a prayer, and student cultural performances. The main agenda continued with remarks by ITK Rector, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc., and a scientific oration delivered by Dr. H. Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, M.Sc., M.P.A., M.A.

ITK's 12-year journey has demonstrated significant institutional development. Since its official inauguration in 2014, ITK has continuously expanded its contribution to higher education, particularly in addressing the demand for highly skilled human resources in Kalimantan and other regions of Indonesia.

According to the institution's development report, ITK welcomed 2,049 new students in 2025. The university has also expanded its academic offerings to 25 undergraduate programs and one master's degree program, while achieving a "Very Good" institutional accreditation rating in 2024.

These achievements represent important milestones in ITK's long-term development journey. Through its institutional strategic direction, ITK aims to strengthen academic quality, advance research capabilities, enhance institutional capacity, and expand national and international collaborations.

Looking ahead to 2030, improving accreditation standards and completing the development of institutional clusters are among ITK's strategic priorities. Meanwhile, its vision of becoming a world-class university by 2035 serves as a long-term objective in strengthening its reputation and global competitiveness.

The Open Senate Session commemorating ITK's 12th anniversary also featured recognition and awards for outstanding lecturers and students, performances by the university's student choir, and the closing academic procession.

Beyond reflecting on institutional achievements, this year's anniversary celebration also featured a strategic collaboration initiative through the Indonesian State Institutes of Technology Consortium (ITX), creating new opportunities for inter-university cooperation in technological development and national innovation.

As ITK enters its 12th year, the university continues to strengthen its position as a technology-focused institution rooted in Kalimantan and dedicated to contributing to Indonesia's advancement. A spirit of unity, a commitment to improving educational quality, and the expansion of innovation serve as the foundations for ITK's journey toward an increasingly impactful future.
