Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) once again provided a platform for innovation through the Semester Gasal Thematic Course Exhibition for the 2025/2026 Academic Year, held at Auditorium Labter 1 ITK in Balikpapan. The event took place in a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere, attracting significant attention as it showcased hundreds of student works that are not only creative but also deliver real impact for society and the environment.

This year’s exhibition recorded a total of 251 student projects from various thematic course areas, including social innovation, technology-based entrepreneurship, and resource management. Each project reflects the ability of ITK students to transform theoretical knowledge into practical solutions that address real-world challenges, ranging from environmental issues and energy needs to modern societal problems.

A wide range of innovations was presented, particularly in sustainability and waste utilization. Among them was LELEGRO, an innovative organic fertilizer produced from agricultural and fishery waste, along with the development of eco-friendly fertilizers based on local organic materials. Students also explored the utilization of used cooking oil into alternative value-added products, emphasizing that waste can be transformed into new opportunities rather than being treated as a burden.

In addition, innovations in clean water technology were highlighted through simple and affordable water filtration systems designed for communities in need, as well as water treatment solutions based on locally available materials. In the energy and marine sectors, students developed biodiesel from organic waste, concepts of eco-friendly ships with improved energy efficiency, and coral reef rehabilitation technologies to support marine ecosystem preservation.

The exhibition also featured innovations in food products, such as healthy fermented beverages like kombucha tea and locally based food products with strong entrepreneurial value. In the digital sector, students introduced digital marketing platforms for MSMEs, digital-based community service systems, and social entrepreneurship solutions to support the creative economy.

Beyond being a showcase of works, the exhibition served as a collaborative space for students, lecturers, and visitors to exchange ideas and strengthen the campus innovation ecosystem. The Head of the ITK Thematic Course Center, Mrs. Melisa Triandini Maulani, S.T., M.T., emphasized that this event proves ITK students’ ability to produce innovations that are not only creative but also relevant and impactful for society.

Overall, the ITK Exhibition 2025/2026 demonstrates that innovation does not always require complex technology, but can emerge from awareness of surrounding problems. From waste to fertilizer, used cooking oil to energy, and digital platforms to social empowerment, all innovations reflect meaningful contributions from ITK students. This event is expected to continue as a strategic platform in producing future innovators who contribute to regional and national development, as well as support the advancement of Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN).
