Balikpapan, November 30, 2025 – The Faculty of Science and Information Technology (FSTI) of Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) successfully held its first Alumni Grand Gathering, attended by dozens of alumni representing eight study programs. The event, which took place at the ITK Campus, marked an important milestone with the official establishment of the FSTI ITK Alumni Association named Octagon.

The event was attended by faculty and university leadership, including the Dean of FSTI ITK, Adi Mahmud Jaya Marindra, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., and the Vice Rector of ITK for Non-Academic Affairs, Ir. Khakim Ghozali, M.MT. The formation of this alumni association is considered a strategic step to strengthen collaboration, expand professional networks, and maintain sustainable engagement between alumni and their alma mater.

The official name of the alumni association, Octagon, stands for Orientation of Knowledge, Technology, and Alumni Generation of FSTI Network. The name symbolizes the unity of the eight study programs within FSTI, forming a strong and integrated alumni network. Philosophically, “Octagon” reflects diversity in academic backgrounds united by a shared vision and commitment.

During the event, Rachman Setiawan Amir, an alumnus of the Information Systems Study Program class of 2013, was elected as the first Chairperson of the FSTI ITK Alumni Association. This initial leadership is expected to serve as a solid foundation for activating and sustaining alumni involvement.

The event concluded with the inauguration of the FSTI Alumni Garden, located at Building B of the ITK Campus. The symbolic handover of plants and a joint tree-planting activity represented long-term commitment, growth, and a lasting bond between alumni and the faculty.

Through the establishment of the Octagon Alumni Association, FSTI ITK hopes to foster an active and productive alumni network that contributes meaningfully to the advancement of education, research, and innovation, particularly in the development of science and technology in Kalimantan.
