Balikpapan, November 7, 2025 — The Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) had the honor of hosting the 2025 Tourism Ambassador Motion Challenge, a part of the National Tourism Ambassador Selection 2025 series. Initiated by the Indonesian Tourism Ambassador Foundation, the event brought together finalists and participants from various regions across Indonesia to showcase their abilities, insights, and commitment to advancing the nation’s tourism sector.

The event, held at the Auditorium of ITK Building A, began with an opening by the master of ceremonies, the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, and a collective prayer. The presence of distinguished guests, including representatives from the local government, academia, and tourism communities, added prestige to the occasion.

On this occasion, Ir. Khakim Ghozali, M.MT, Vice Rector II for Non-Academic Affairs of ITK, delivered a speech on behalf of the Rector. He emphasized that the Motion Challenge holds strategic value in shaping the character of Indonesia’s young generation.

“This activity is not merely a competition or a performance, but a learning process that instills the values of creativity, collaboration, and nationalism. Through the Motion Challenge, we aim to cultivate an innovative spirit in promoting Indonesia’s tourism potential in a modern and sustainable way,” said Ir. Khakim Ghozali.

He further explained that the event aligns with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in education, research, and community service, as tourism promotion is a tangible form of contribution to regional and national development.

Following the ITK representative’s address, Dr. C.I. Ratih Kusuma W, Head of the Balikpapan City Office of Tourism, Youth, and Sports, delivered a speech expressing her appreciation for ITK’s role in hosting the Motion Challenge. She highlighted how the event strengthens collaboration between local government, higher education institutions, and the tourism community.

“A tourism ambassador is not only a representative of regional beauty but also an agent of change who embodies innovation and competitiveness. Through events like this, we hope to see more young people ready to promote the tourism potential of Balikpapan and East Kalimantan creatively and sustainably,” said Dr. Ratih Kusuma.

After the welcoming remarks, a souvenir exchange took place between the Indonesian Tourism Ambassador Foundation and ITK, symbolizing the strong synergy between educational institutions and tourism organizations.

The program then continued with its main segment, the Motion Challenge, which this year featured a debate competition between pairs of Tourism Ambassador finalists. During this session, finalists exchanged critical perspectives on current issues related to tourism, culture, and sustainable development. Uniquely, the debate questions were presented directly by ITK students, creating an engaging two-way interaction that encouraged finalists to think quickly, express their opinions confidently, and argue logically and respectfully.

In his closing remarks, Ir. Khakim Ghozali expressed his appreciation to all participants and organizers for their dedication and contribution to the event’s success.

“May this activity serve as a valuable experience that strengthens our love for Indonesian culture and tourism, while also reinforcing the belief that the younger generation plays a vital role in advancing the nation,” he concluded.

The event concluded with a group photo session involving all participants, committee members, and guests. The 2025 Tourism Ambassador Motion Challenge at ITK stands as a testament to how collaboration between higher education institutions, government bodies, and tourism communities can become a driving force of innovation — building a creative, cultured, and globally competitive Indonesia.
