Balikpapan - Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) officially launched the stages of the ITK Rector Election for the 2026–2030 Period through a Socialization and Press Conference held on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Meeting Room A307, ITK. This event marks an important moment for ITK in preparing a new phase of leadership that will continue the university’s transformation as a strategic public higher education institution in East Kalimantan and the buffer region of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara.

The event was attended by the Rector of ITK, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc., Chair of the Rector Election Committee Ir. Alamsyah, S.T., M.T., Chair of the ITK Senate Andromeda Dwi Laksono, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., university leaders, senate members, the academic community, student representatives, and members of the press.

In his remarks, ITK Rector Prof. Agus Rubiyanto stated that the rector election is not merely a routine agenda or a leadership transition process. According to him, the election is an important part of the institution’s journey in determining ITK’s policy direction and future development for the next four years.

“The rector election is not merely an administrative agenda or a leadership transition process. More than that, it is an important momentum in determining the direction, policies, and future of Institut Teknologi Kalimantan for the coming years,” said Prof. Agus.

He emphasized that the ITK Rector Election process must uphold the principles of good university governance. Transparency, accountability, democracy, and integrity are the main values that must be maintained throughout every stage of the process.

“This process is part of our shared commitment to maintaining good university governance that is democratic, transparent, accountable, and rooted in integrity,” he added.

Inviting the Best Candidates to Contribute

Through this launch, ITK officially opens registration for Prospective Candidates for Rector of ITK for the 2026–2030 Period. Registration is open from May 25 to June 25, 2026, through the official website pilrek.itk.ac.id.

Prof. Agus stated that ITK invites the best individuals who meet the requirements to participate in the election process. He expressed hope that ITK’s future leader will have a strong vision, high integrity, and a deep commitment to advancing ITK’s contribution to society, the region, and the nation.

“We invite the best individuals who meet the requirements to participate as Prospective Candidates for Rector of ITK for the 2026–2030 Period. Let us take part in shaping the future of ITK,” he said.

He further noted that ITK is currently in a strategic phase of strengthening its role as a technology-based university that contributes to the development of East Kalimantan and Nusantara Capital City. Therefore, the next leadership is expected to maintain institutional continuity, expand collaboration, and strengthen the quality of education, research, innovation, and community service.

Election Stages to Continue Until December 2026

Chair of the ITK Rector Election Committee, Ir. Alamsyah, S.T., M.T., explained that all stages have been systematically arranged, starting from candidate scouting and selection to the election, appointment, and inauguration of the elected rector.

The process begins with the registration of prospective rector candidates from May 25 to June 25, 2026. The committee will then announce the administrative selection results on July 6, 2026, followed by an objection period from July 7 to 9, 2026.

The next stages include the announcement of the scouting results on July 20, 2026, the presentation of vision and mission on August 5, 2026, and the assessment and determination of three rector candidates on August 6, 2026. On the same date, ITK will also hold the Rector Election, while the appointment and inauguration of the elected rector are scheduled for December 2026.

Requirements for Prospective Rector Candidates

Prospective rector candidates must meet several requirements covering academic and employment status, integrity and legal standing, as well as general administrative criteria.

In terms of academic qualifications, applicants must be active civil servants holding at least the academic rank of Associate Professor/Lektor Kepala, possess a doctoral degree (Ph.D./S3) from an accredited higher education institution, and have at least two years of managerial experience as a department head or in an equivalent position. Applicants may also be those who have held a position equivalent to at least echelon II.a, with a maximum age of 60 years at the end of the current rector’s term of office.

In terms of integrity and legal requirements, applicants must never have been convicted based on a final and binding court decision, must never have been proven to have committed plagiarism, and must be free from narcotics, precursors, and other addictive substances.

Meanwhile, under general administrative requirements, applicants must be physically and mentally healthy, submit a written statement of willingness to serve as rector, have received at least a “good” performance assessment for the last two years, not be undertaking study leave or permission to study for more than six months that would require leaving the tridharma duties of higher education, and not be serving a moderate or severe disciplinary sanction.
