Balikpapan – A temporary power outage did little to dampen the enthusiasm of 40 twelfth-grade students from SMA Patra Dharma Pertamina during their visit to Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK). Held on November 4, 2026, at the ITK Integrated Laboratory Auditorium, the visit introduced students to study options, university admission pathways, and campus life following their completion of the Academic Competency Test (TKA).
The campus introduction offered students a closer look at university education as they considered their next steps after high school. Information about ITK’s admission pathways helped them prepare for further study in line with their interests and aspirations.
Saputro Dewo, M. Nurhidayatur Rozikin, and Ulfah welcomed the students and accompanied them throughout the visit. The team introduced ITK and helped participants explore the learning opportunities available on campus.
Admission pathways were a central topic during the introductory session. For students in their final year of high school, understanding university entry options is an essential part of planning their education. The session provided information to help them identify available opportunities and approach the application process with a clearer sense of direction.
Beyond the auditorium session, students explored ITK’s laboratory facilities. The tour included Characterization Laboratory A, STL, and laboratories in civil engineering, food technology, and energy. These visits demonstrated how university learning extends into practical work, observation, and research.
The range of facilities introduced students to connections between their school subjects and potential fields of study. From materials to energy, each laboratory offered an initial glimpse into disciplines they might pursue at university.
Although a power outage briefly disrupted the activities, the students and their hosts remained enthusiastic. The welcoming atmosphere and shared spirit of curiosity helped sustain engagement throughout the visit.
For students who had recently completed the TKA, the experience offered an opportunity to look ahead. Preparing for university involves exploring personal interests, gathering reliable information, and understanding the learning environment in which they hope to grow.
Through the visit, ITK gave prospective students a chance to experience the campus firsthand and consider their educational goals. The power may have gone out briefly, but their enthusiasm for learning and planning for the future continued to shine.
