Balikpapan - The celebration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day at Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) on Sunday, August 17, became even more festive with the Opening Ceremony of ITK’s 12th Anniversary. This year’s Independence Day served as a meaningful starting point for ITK’s anniversary celebration under the theme “Unity in Diversity: From ITK for the Archipelago.”
The opening ceremony began with a performance by the ITK Student Choir (PSM ITK), featuring the ITK March and a medley of Indonesian regional songs. The lively performance reflected the diversity of ITK’s academic community, whose members come from various regions across Indonesia.
The spirit of diversity was further highlighted through a flag parade, one of the symbolic highlights of the ceremony. The parade represented the many identities and backgrounds within the ITK community, united by a shared sense of togetherness.
In his remarks, Chairperson of the 12th ITK Anniversary Committee, Andi Idhil Ismail, expressed gratitude that the anniversary opening could be held on the same day as Indonesia’s Independence Day commemoration.
He emphasized that the theme “Unity in Diversity” was not merely a slogan, but a reflection of ITK as a university that continues to grow through diversity, collaboration, and a strong sense of community.
The 12th Anniversary also became a moment to reflect on ITK’s journey of growth and development. This spirit is translated into a series of activities designed not only as ceremonial events, but also as opportunities to strengthen togetherness across the university community.
The celebration will continue through Specta Day, featuring various team-based and recreational competitions such as sarong relay, water relay, tug-of-war, and other activities. The anniversary series will also include Specta Idol and a stand-up comedy performance.
In his remarks, the Rector of ITK also emphasized that the spirit of independence reminds the university community of the importance of maintaining unity. Indonesia itself was built upon diversity, and ITK similarly brings together students, lecturers, and staff from different regions, cultures, and backgrounds.
The spirit of “From ITK for the Archipelago” serves as a reminder that the university’s growth is not only intended for the institution itself, but also to create broader contributions for society and Indonesia.
The Opening Ceremony officially marked the beginning of ITK’s 12th Anniversary celebrations. The flag parade became a symbol that, despite differences in background, the entire ITK community continues to move forward toward a shared purpose.
Through the momentum of Independence Day and ITK’s 12th Anniversary, the university once again celebrates its journey, growth, and togetherness while carrying forward the spirit of making a meaningful impact from Bumi Etam for the Archipelago.
