Balikpapan — The implementation of the DIKTISAINTEK IMPACT-ORIENTED policy is once again reflected through the achievements of a student from the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK). Mahardika Arka, a student of the Informatics Study Program, Class of 2023, successfully secured First Place in the 2025 Bank Indonesia Infographic Competition with his innovative work entitled “UMKM Go Digital: Youth, MSMEs, and the Future of Regional Economic Development.”

This work stands out not only for its visual appeal and creativity, but also for delivering data-driven impact and practical, applicable solutions to regional economic challenges. The infographic highlights a critical issue, revealing that 59% of MSMEs in East Kalimantan still operate manually, placing them at risk of falling behind in the increasingly competitive digital economy. Through an educational approach grounded in local research, the work aligns with the spirit of DIKTISAINTEK IMPACT-ORIENTED, which emphasizes science and technology as concrete solutions for society.

Mahardika identifies three key challenges faced by MSMEs: limited market reach, low digital literacy, and minimal utilization of digital technology. In response, the infographic proposes four pillars of MSME digital transformation: digital marketing through social media platforms, the use of digital point-of-sale applications, implementation of QRIS digital payment systems, and integration with online platforms. These solutions are presented visually to ensure clarity, accessibility, and ease of implementation.

Furthermore, the work emphasizes the strategic role of young people as agents of change within the regional economic ecosystem—serving as technology mentors, digital content creators, and facilitators of digital literacy training for MSMEs. The infographic also demonstrates measurable impacts, including sales growth of up to 300%, the creation of new employment opportunities, and the strengthening of a sustainable local economy.

This achievement is in line with Bank Indonesia’s mission to promote digital financial inclusion and reflects the direction of higher education policy through DIKTISAINTEK IMPACT-ORIENTED, where student work goes beyond conceptual ideas to deliver tangible benefits for communities and regional development.

The success of Mahardika Arka serves as strong evidence that ITK students are capable of producing innovations that are relevant, applicable, and impactful, while actively contributing to the resolution of real-world regional economic challenges through science and technology.
