On January 24, 2025, the Institute of Technology of Kalimantan (ITK) campus hosted an important national discussion themed "The Urgency of Energy Transition to Prevent Climate Change Impacts." The event was attended by the Vice Chairman of the MPR RI, Dr. Eddy Soeparno, S.H., M.H., along with the Rector of ITK, Vice Rectors, Deans of Faculties, Head of LPPM, and several lecturers who actively participated in the visit.

In his welcoming speech, the Rector of ITK expressed gratitude and pride for the significant visit. "ITK is truly honored and happy to receive the visit of Mr. Eddy as the Vice Chairman of the MPR RI," said the Rector, highlighting the importance of the visit and the opportunity to discuss a critical issue for the nation's future.

This national discussion focused on the important topic of energy transition and its role in mitigating the growing impacts of climate change. During the event, Dr. Eddy Soeparno, S.H., M.H., emphasized the challenges Indonesia faces in moving toward a more sustainable energy future. He pointed out that while energy transition is vital to preventing the worsening effects of climate change, there are significant challenges to overcome, particularly in terms of regulation and infrastructure development.

"Economic growth requires a substantial amount of energy to move forward. However, there is no transition without transmission, as long as the resources are sufficient," Dr. Eddy Soeparno stated. This highlights the fact that energy transition is not only about changing the energy sources but also about ensuring the infrastructure is capable of supporting renewable energy use effectively and sustainably.

The discussion also provided a platform for participants to share their views, with many advocating for stronger support of renewable energy as a critical step in addressing climate change impacts. Several participants emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government, private sector, and society in creating an ecosystem that supports the development of renewable energy, in terms of policies, funding, and technology.

In conclusion, the event was not only an opportunity to deepen understanding of the importance of energy transition but also a moment for all parties present to commit to taking concrete actions to support a shift towards more sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources.

This national discussion reinforced the idea that awareness and commitment to preventing the impacts of climate change must begin with tangible steps that can be implemented in the near future, with the support of all involved, to create a greener and brighter future.
