Balikpapan - Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) officially opened the SPIn ETAM 2026 series on Monday, August 3, 2026. Running until August 9, 2026, the program marks the beginning of the academic journey for 2,201 new ITK students in the 2026/2027 academic year.
The total comprises 2,184 undergraduate students and 17 master’s students. The opening ceremony began with the official acceptance of the new students by the Rector of ITK, Prof. Dr. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc.
SPIn ETAM is a campus orientation program designed to help new students understand ITK’s academic system, campus services, student life, and institutional values. Through this program, students are expected to adapt to their new environment and prepare themselves before beginning their studies.
ITK’s new students for the 2026/2027 academic year come from 24 provinces, representing five major regions of Indonesia: Kalimantan, Java, Sulawesi, Sumatra, and Papua.
This geographical diversity demonstrates ITK’s growing recognition among prospective students from across Indonesia. The different regional and cultural backgrounds are also expected to foster an inclusive, collaborative, and respectful learning environment.
Based on undergraduate admission pathways, 54.6 percent of students were admitted through the National Selection Based on Tests, or SNBT. A further 33.2 percent entered through the National Selection Based on Achievement, or SNBP, while 12.2 percent were admitted through ITK’s independent SUMMIT pathway.
The distribution of the 2,184 new undergraduate students across ITK’s faculties is as follows:
The three faculties therefore account for 2,184 undergraduate students, while the remaining 17 students are enrolled in master’s programs.
Throughout SPIn ETAM, new students receive information and guidance on academic and non-academic life, institutional services, student organizations, character development, and other essential matters related to studying at ITK.
The program serves not only as an introduction to the campus but also as a way to help students develop the mindset required in higher education. New students are encouraged to become independent, collaborative, principled, and attentive to social and environmental issues.
SPIn ETAM also provides an opportunity for students to meet peers from different study programs and regions. These interactions mark the beginning of new networks, solidarity, and a shared sense of belonging to ITK.
SPIn ETAM is part of a series of introductory activities conducted before the start of regular classes. In addition to the official acceptance ceremony and campus orientation from August 3 to 9, 2026, new students will also take the ITK Academic English Test (IAET) and participate in matriculation activities according to their respective programs.
After completing the introductory series, students are scheduled to begin classes on August 24, 2026.
Through SPIn ETAM 2026, ITK hopes that new students will become familiar with the campus environment, understand the academic system, and prepare themselves to develop their knowledge, skills, and character throughout their studies.
The arrival of 2,201 new students brings new energy to ITK’s commitment to providing inclusive, adaptive, and impactful higher education. Coming from different parts of Indonesia, these students now begin a shared journey to learn, create, and contribute to Kalimantan and the nation.
