Balikpapan – Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) takes another strategic step forward! In the 2026 academic year, this technology-focused state university officially launched three new study programs, designed to cultivate highly skilled professionals in the maritime and health sectors.
This move strengthens ITK’s position as a strategic state university supporting Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN) and as a center for technological innovation in East Kalimantan.
The Marine Transportation Engineering program is the first of its kind in Kalimantan, focusing on waterway transport, port management, and maritime logistics.
Students will develop expertise in:
Adopting a living laboratory approach, students gain hands-on experience in ports and strategic shipping lanes in East Kalimantan. They also become familiar with digitalization and automation in maritime systems.
Graduates have career opportunities in shipping companies, port authorities, shipyards, and government institutions such as the Ministry of Transportation, Pelindo, ASDP, Pelni, and IKN Authority.
The Naval Systems Engineering program prepares students for the demands of the modern maritime industry, emphasizing energy efficiency, decarbonization, and digitalized ships (smart vessels).

Graduates can pursue careers as design engineers, project engineers, surveyors, maritime consultants, or entrepreneurs in shipbuilding and related industries.
The Biomedical Engineering program addresses modern healthcare challenges, including telemedicine and smart medical systems, with a focus on remote areas in Central and Eastern Indonesia.
