Balikpapan - Students of the Actuarial Science Study Program at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) have once again achieved impressive national success by winning second place in the Actuarial Modeling Competition organized by the National Health Insurance (BPJS Kesehatan) Center. The competition, attended by 47 teams from 27 universities across Indonesia, served as a strategic platform for strengthening students' competencies in actuarial science and risk analysis, in line with the Impactful Education and Technology Initiative (Diktisaintek Berdampak) spirit, which encourages higher education to produce real solutions for society.
The ITK Actuarial Science team, consisting of Ahmad Tijani Noor, Nadya Azwarelda H., Aura Nabil Arsy, and Mila Fitria Sari from the Data Science Department (JSAD) class of 2023, under the guidance of Eli Zulkatri, M.Aktr, successfully demonstrated the superior quality of actuarial analysis and modeling. In addition to winning second place, the team also made it to the Top 10 Finalists based on the assessment paper, confirming the competitiveness of ITK students in this national academic competition based on research and problem-solving.
The BPJS Kesehatan Actuarial Modeling Competition not only assesses calculations and statistical methods, but also challenges students' ability to make applicable policy recommendations for strengthening the National Health Insurance system. This reflects the implementation of impactful learning, where academic knowledge is developed to address the real needs of stakeholders, in alignment with the policy direction of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).
The ITK Actuarial Science Team stated that this competition provided valuable experience in developing critical thinking skills, teamwork, and resilience in facing national-scale academic challenges. The support from the ITK Actuarial Science Study Program and the active role of the supervising lecturers were considered crucial factors in the success of the competition, from the preparation process to the final event.
This achievement is clear evidence of ITK's contribution to producing superior, adaptive, and impactful actuarial talent for national development. This success is expected to strengthen the innovative academic ecosystem and encourage students to continue working, achieving, and taking on strategic roles in the development of science oriented towards the benefit of society.
