Balikpapan, October 27, 2025 – The Faculty of Science and Information Technology (FSTI) at the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) officially launched the FSTI Co-Learning Space and English Speaking Zone, a new facility designed to enhance students’ creativity, collaboration, and English language proficiency. The inauguration ceremony took place at the 1st-floor hallway of Building B, FSTI, and was attended by ITK leadership, representatives from PT Telkom Indonesia, lecturers, and student representatives from various departments.

Opening: About the Co-Learning Space and the Collaboration Between ITK and PT Telkom

The event began with an opening speech delivered by Ir. Khakim Ghozali, S.T., M.T., Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of the Co-Learning Space and English Speaking Zone as a tangible form of ITK’s commitment to creating an innovative, collaborative, and sustainable campus environment.

“The Co-Learning Space and English Speaking Zone are not just new facilities, but spaces where ideas, creativity, and a refreshing spirit of learning can flourish among ITK students,” said Khakim in his speech. He also expressed his appreciation to PT Telkom Indonesia for its full support in the development of this facility, especially in Building B, through a long-standing partnership with ITK.

This collaboration is not new; ITK and PT Telkom have been working hand in hand for several years in developing digital infrastructure and learning technology, which has now been expanded to include the establishment of the Co-Learning Space and English Speaking Zone. The presence of this facility is expected to foster an active, modern, and student-centered learning ecosystem at ITK.

Remarks from PT Telkom: Encouraging Creativity and Innovation

The next speech was delivered by Mr. Dwi Nugroho Ihsanul Walad, Senior Manager of Regional SME Service, PT Telkom Indonesia. In his address, he expressed his delight in being able to support the development of ITK’s learning facilities.

“We are very pleased to contribute to encouraging the creativity of the academic community through the presence of this new learning space. We hope that in the future, PT Telkom can continue to provide even greater support for ITK,” said Dwi Nugroho.

He also added that Telkom is committed to contributing not only through digital network infrastructure but also by creating a modern, collaborative, and inspiring learning environment for the younger generation.

Co-Learning Space and English Speaking Zone: Spaces for Learning and Growth

The new facility combines two main concepts: the Co-Learning Space and the English Speaking Zone. The Co-Learning Space emphasizes a comfortable, open, and creative learning atmosphere. The area is designed with natural elements, good lighting, and a refreshing green ambiance, allowing students to discuss, innovate, and collaborate more productively.

Meanwhile, the English Speaking Zone serves as an area where students are encouraged to use English in their daily conversations whether during discussions, reading sessions, or small presentations.

Through this approach, ITK aims not only to provide a physical space but also to foster a new academic culture that supports students’ global competencies and communication skills.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony: A Symbol of a New Learning Era

The highlight of the event was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the official opening of the Co-Learning Space and English Speaking Zone. The ceremony was led by Ir. Khakim Ghozali, S.T., M.T., accompanied by Dr. Adi Mahmud Jaya Marindra, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Dean of FSTI, and representatives from PT Telkom Indonesia as the main sponsor of the project.

The moment was met with enthusiasm from all attendees. After the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the new facility, which is equipped with flexible study tables, high-speed internet access, and comfortable discussion areas to support student activities.

Message and Hope from the Dean of FSTI

In his closing remarks, Dr. Adi Mahmud Jaya Marindra expressed his great expectations for the utilization of this new learning facility.

“This facility is not just a place to study but a platform for students to grow, especially in improving their English proficiency,” he stated.

He explained that the idea of establishing the Co-Learning Space dan English Speaking Zone stemmed from the concern that many final-year students struggle with English proficiency tests required for graduation. With this dedicated zone, students are expected to have a comfortable and supportive space to practice speaking, engage in discussions, and enhance their language skills actively.

Dr. Adi also reminded all students and members of the academic community to maintain and take care of the facilities provided, ensuring they remain clean, well-maintained, and functional for long-term use.

The Significance of the Co-Learning Space for ITK

The inauguration of the FSTI Co-Learning Space and English Speaking Zone marks a significant step for ITK in developing a modern, inclusive, and future-oriented learning environment. The facility embodies the university’s values of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability.

The presence of this new learning space reflects ITK’s openness to innovative learning models not only confined to classrooms but also expanding into interactive spaces that encourage informal and creative learning.

With strong support from PT Telkom Indonesia, this facility is expected to inspire other faculties within ITK to develop similar learning spaces that promote independent study, collaboration, and communication excellence among students.

Closing: Prayer and Group Photo

The event concluded with a collective prayer and a photo session involving all participants, creating a warm and collaborative atmosphere. The moment marked a new milestone in FSTI’s journey toward a greener, more active, and globally competitive academic environment.
