Balikpapan, September 2, 2026 – The second day of ITK Insight (Instrument, Skill, and Innovative Guidance for Higher Technology) 2026 continued with Safety Induction, Lab Visits, and Hands-On activities at Integrated Laboratory Buildings 1 and 2 of Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK), on Wednesday (September 2). The activities provided participants, particularly those from the industrial sector, with an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of ITK’s Integrated Laboratory facilities, instruments, and potential services in supporting testing, research, and industrial development needs.

The activities began with a Safety Induction at the Integrated Laboratory Building, delivered by Teo Lukman, Manager of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) at the ITK Integrated Laboratory Academic Support Unit (UPA). The session provided participants with an understanding of the rules and safety procedures that must be observed while being present and carrying out activities within the laboratory environment.

Lab Visit and Hands-On: Seeing and Experiencing Laboratory Instruments Firsthand

Following the Safety Induction, participants joined a Lab Visit to various laboratory rooms in Integrated Laboratory Buildings 1 and 2. During the visit, participants were introduced to the facilities, instruments, and functions of each laboratory, particularly those relevant to research and industrial needs.

The Lab Visit was also complemented by Hands-On activities, allowing participants not only to observe demonstrations but also to experience firsthand how several laboratory instruments operate under the guidance of the ITK Integrated Laboratory team. Participants gained a better understanding of instrument operation, the types of testing that can be conducted, and their potential applications for various technical needs.

This direct interaction also created opportunities for discussion between participants and the laboratory team. Industry representatives were able to explore the available facilities and testing methods in greater detail, including their potential applications in supporting needs within their respective fields.

Bringing Laboratory Capabilities Closer to Industrial Needs

Through the Lab Visit and Hands-On activities, participants gained a more concrete understanding of the capabilities of ITK’s Integrated Laboratory. The activities also served as a platform to connect ITK’s facilities and expertise with the real-world needs of the industrial sector.

The visit is expected to open opportunities for utilizing the Integrated Laboratory facilities in various forms of collaboration, including testing services, joint research, material characterization and analysis, and technology development.

Door Prizes and Discussion Conclude ITK Insight 2026

Before the event concluded, participants took part in a door prize session, adding a sense of excitement and togetherness to the ITK Insight 2026 series. The event then continued with a discussion and question-and-answer session focusing on the ITK Insight activities held over the two-day program.

During the session, participants had the opportunity to share feedback, raise questions, and further explore topics presented on the first day, as well as their experiences during the Lab Visit and Hands-On activities on the second day. The discussion also provided an opportunity to explore the potential utilization of ITK’s Integrated Laboratory facilities and future collaboration among industry representatives, academics, and government institutions.

Through the two-day implementation of ITK Insight 2026, ITK continues to strengthen the role of its Integrated Laboratory not only as an educational and research facility but also as a strategic partner for industry. The program is expected to serve as an initial step toward strengthening synergy among higher education institutions, government, and industry through the utilization of laboratory facilities, expertise, and technology to support the needs and development of industries in East Kalimantan, from upstream to downstream sectors.
