Balikpapan - Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) held a health seminar highlighting the importance of non-communicable disease prevention and mental health awareness within the campus environment. The event served as an educational platform for the academic community to better understand the importance of maintaining physical health, managing stress, and building personal balance amid the dynamics of academic and professional activities.

The seminar was attended by ITK Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs, Ir. Khakin Ghozali, M.MT., and featured two speakers, Dr. Salsabila Elfirdausy and Patria Rahmawaty, S.Psi., M.MPd., Psi. The session was moderated by Ns. Devi Hijratur Rohmah, S.Kep., N.S.

During the event, participants received two main presentations: “Recognizing Non-Communicable Diseases” and “Take Care of Yourself, Maintain Your Performance: The Importance of Mental Health in the Campus Environment.” Both topics emphasized that health is not only related to physical condition, but also includes one’s ability to manage pressure, regulate emotions, and create a healthy learning and working environment.

Through the first presentation, the speaker explained that non-communicable diseases need to be recognized early because they often develop gradually and are influenced by daily lifestyle patterns. Awareness of prevention, maintaining a healthy diet, staying physically active, and undergoing regular health checks were highlighted as important steps to maintain quality of life.

In addition to physical health, the seminar also emphasized the importance of mental health for the academic community. A dynamic campus environment, work demands, academic pressure, and complex social interactions can become sources of stress if not managed properly. Therefore, the ability to identify sources of stress is an important first step in maintaining personal balance.

In the session on stress management, the speaker shared nine practical strategies that can be applied in daily life. These include identifying sources of stress, managing priorities and time, maintaining work-life balance, building social support, practicing emotional regulation, maintaining physical condition, applying spiritual coping, creating a healthy environment, and having the courage to seek help when needed.

Participants were also encouraged to view mental health not as something to be hidden, but as an essential part of productivity and sustainable performance. With good mental health, individuals are expected to work more effectively, make better decisions, and build positive relationships within the campus environment.

The seminar continued interactively through a question-and-answer session between participants and the speakers. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions related to physical health, stress management, and ways to maintain balance in daily activities.

Through this seminar, ITK hopes that its academic community will develop greater awareness of the importance of holistic health. This includes not only being physically healthy, but also mentally resilient, adaptive in facing challenges, and able to contribute to a more caring, supportive, and productive campus environment.

This activity also reflects ITK’s commitment to building a healthy and sustainable campus ecosystem. With increased understanding of physical and mental health, the academic community is expected to continue learning, working, and contributing more optimally.
