BALIKPAPAN, June 25, 2025 – The Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) is intensifying its efforts to enhance academic activities and campus development. During a meeting held at ITK's Integrated Laboratory Building 1, with Commission IV of the East Kalimantan Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), ITK submitted several strategic requests and proposals concerning infrastructure and campus land development.
The meeting was attended by H. Baba (Chairman of Commission IV), H. M. Darlis Pattalongi, S. Hut., M.Si., M.H. (Secretary of Commission IV), and Hj. Syahari’ah Mas’ud, S.E. (Member of Commission IV). Representing ITK were Ir. Khakim Ghozali, M.MT. (Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, and General Affairs) and Yuspian, S.Sos., M.I.R. (Head of Academic Bureau).
To ensure the comfort and safety of teaching and learning activities, especially at night, ITK requested assistance with public street lighting from the campus entrance to the campus area. A request for road improvements was also a crucial highlight. Furthermore, to strengthen its image and accessibility, ITK sought support from the East Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov Kaltim) for the construction of an ITK gate integrated with the Sungai Wein Botanical Garden at Km. 15. In response, Commission IV DPRD Kaltim stated they would seek support from the Balikpapan City Government to ensure easier access for the academic community and the public.
Another critical issue raised by ITK was the request for follow-up on the expired location designation status for the acquisition of 310 hectares of land, in accordance with the MoU with Pemprov Kaltim. Commission IV DPRD Kaltim agreed to help facilitate the acceleration of this process. To improve mobility within the campus area, ITK also requested assistance from the Balikpapan City Government to facilitate public transportation access.
Commission IV DPRD Kaltim demonstrated its full commitment to supporting ITK's initiatives. As a concrete step, Commission IV will facilitate a meeting between ITK and the Governor of East Kalimantan Province to discuss and follow up on all submitted requests and proposals, showcasing a strong synergy between the legislative body and the educational institution for regional progress.
