Balikpapan – A festive atmosphere filled the Platinum Hotel Balikpapan on Tuesday (September 1) as Balikpapan Pos celebrated its 25th anniversary under the theme “25 Years Beyond the News.” Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) took part in the special occasion, represented by ITK Rector Prof. Dr. Agus Rubiyanti, M.Eng.Sc., accompanied by the Head of ITK’s Public Relations and Protocol Team.

In his remarks, Director of Balikpapan Pos Ajid, S.Hut., M.T., reflected on the media company’s long journey amid rapidly changing times.

“Twenty-five years is a long cycle for a media organization. It is even difficult to imagine what the next 50 years will look like because the industry is changing so quickly,” he said. “If a media company only sells news, it will not survive for long. Therefore, our vision is to continue developing innovative services that create added value, ranging from media monitoring and data analytics to product reviews and various communication and journalism training programs.”

He also expressed his appreciation to Balikpapan Pos’ partners.

“On behalf of Balikpapan Pos, I would like to thank all of our partners for the collaboration and relationships that have been built over the years. Hopefully, this synergy will continue and grow stronger in the future.”

Similar appreciation was conveyed by Director of Kaltim Pos Drs. H. Ivan Firdaus.

“Thank you to all of our partners for the support you have given us. May our partnership continue to bring positive outcomes,” he said.

The celebration also featured remarks from an Expert Assistant representing the Mayor of Balikpapan, followed by the ceremonial cutting of tumpeng as a symbol of gratitude for Balikpapan Pos’ quarter-century journey.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of appreciation awards to Balikpapan Pos’ partners. ITK received recognition as an Education Partner, with the award presented directly to ITK Rector Prof. Dr. Agus Rubiyanti, M.Eng.Sc.

The recognition reflects the strong collaboration between ITK and Balikpapan Pos in disseminating information and stories related to education, research, and innovation in Balikpapan.

The celebration also included the presentation of lifetime achievement awards to several prominent figures in Balikpapan. Among the recipients was Rizal Effendi, Mayor of Balikpapan for the 2011–2016 and 2016–2021 terms. Known for his background in journalism, he currently serves as a member of ITK’s Advisory Council.

As Balikpapan Pos moves beyond its 25th year, the celebration was not merely a reflection on the news and stories it has delivered over the past quarter-century, but also an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders, including ITK, and continue growing together in the years ahead.
