Balikpapan — Students of Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) have once again demonstrated their achievements beyond academics through arts and creativity. Mahameru Band, a student band under the ITK Music Student Activity Unit (UKM Musik ITK), secured Second Place at the 2026 Kodam Band Festival, organized by Kodam VI/Mulawarman in Balikpapan on May 2–3, 2026.

Mahameru Band consists of students with diverse musical interests and backgrounds. Led by Muhammad Hesaputra Irawan, an Electrical Engineering student from the Class of 2023, alongside Innocentius Willygis, the group delivered a performance that successfully blended various musical influences into a harmonious and distinctive presentation.

For Mahameru Band, participating in the 2026 Kodam Band Festival was more than just competing for a title. The event served as an opportunity to learn, grow, and measure their abilities on a broader stage. Through this competition, the team gained valuable experience in teamwork, stage performance, self-confidence, and professional musicianship.

Their preparation extended beyond technical rehearsals. The team devoted time to discussions, idea-sharing sessions, and strengthening the chemistry among members. According to the band, mutual trust and strong teamwork were key factors that contributed to their success throughout the competition.

Muhammad Hesaputra Irawan stated that this achievement serves as motivation for all members of UKM Musik ITK to continue creating, performing, and developing their talents. Beyond bringing recognition to the team, the accomplishment also highlights how creativity and achievement can thrive alongside academic pursuits in higher education.

"Never hesitate to try, because no effort is ever wasted. We hope this achievement can inspire fellow ITK students to continue developing their interests and talents, both in academic and non-academic fields," he said.

The success of Mahameru Band reflects ITK’s commitment to supporting students’ holistic development. Through various student organizations and extracurricular activities, the university continues to provide opportunities for students to grow, collaborate, and excel in a wide range of fields, including arts and culture.
