Balikpapan – Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) has once again achieved a significant national milestone. The Electrochemistry Research Center has been awarded funding under the 2026 Semesta In-Saintek Program by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) through its project BINTANG Dissemination (Biomass for Sustainable Battery Innovation for Future Generations).

This achievement reflects ITK's commitment to delivering impactful research, in line with the spirit of Diktisaintek Berdampak (Impactful Higher Education, Science, and Technology), which encourages research outcomes to extend beyond laboratories and create tangible benefits for society, education, industry, and national development.

The program is led by Dr. Eng. Yunita Triana, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Electrochemistry Research Center at ITK, together with a multidisciplinary research team dedicated to disseminating the potential of biomass as an innovative material for sustainable battery technology.

Through the BINTANG Dissemination Program, the public will gain a deeper understanding of biomass as an environmentally friendly resource for next-generation energy storage technologies. The initiative also aims to enhance public literacy in science and technology, particularly in renewable energy, while fostering innovations that address future energy challenges.

This accomplishment demonstrates that research at ITK is not solely focused on academic publications but also on generating real-world impact through education, collaboration, and the transfer of scientific knowledge to society. The funding is expected to strengthen ITK's research ecosystem while expanding strategic partnerships with government agencies, industry, academic institutions, and the wider community.

Furthermore, this achievement marks an important step toward establishing a Center of Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI) at ITK. Through collaboration and continuous innovation, ITK remains committed to producing high-quality, competitive, and impact-driven research that contributes to academic excellence, industrial advancement, community development, and Indonesia's transition toward a sustainable energy future.
