Balikpapan, October 21, 2025 — The Department of Naval Architecture, Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK), in collaboration with the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Systems Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS), successfully held the 2nd National Seminar on Maritime Innovation and Applied Technology (SNIT2EK 2025) at ITK Campus, Balikpapan.

Carrying the theme “The Role of Maritime Innovation and Technology in Supporting the Development of an Integrated Smart Capital City,” this seminar served as a platform for collaboration among academics, researchers, industry practitioners, and students to discuss the direction of sustainable maritime technology development in the era of Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN).

Opening Remarks

The event began with remarks from Muhammad Iqbal Nikmatullah, S.T., M.T., Chairperson of SNIT2EK 2025, who expressed his gratitude to all participants and partners. He hoped the seminar would become a space for exchanging ideas, information, and partnerships to enhance academic quality and make tangible contributions to the nation.

Next, Hariyono, S.T., M.T., Head of the Naval Architecture Study Program at ITK, highlighted that the main goal of this conference is to provide opportunities for researchers, lecturers, and students in the maritime field to present and disseminate their research findings.

Meanwhile, Ir. Khakim Ghozali, M.MT., Vice Rector for Non-Academic Affairs at ITK, officially opened the event. He emphasized that the seminar represents a concrete effort to strengthen the academic community’s contribution to advancing the national maritime sector and fostering collaboration among lecturers, staff, and students across universities.

Seminar Sessions

The seminar featured four keynote speakers from academia and industry, each presenting interconnected topics in the context of sustainable maritime development.

  • Dr. Soegeng Riyadi, S.T., M.T., M.RINA
(Director of Engineering and Development, PT Orela Shipyard Indonesia)
Presented “Integration of Fast Vessel Innovation and Clean Energy for Smart Maritime Connectivity in the Nusantara Capital.” He discussed the role of AI, machine learning, and renewable energy in modern ship design, introducing innovative projects such as Solar2Wave, Crew Boat Dual Fuel, and Multicat Hybrid as part of a Smart Maritime Corridor supporting sea–river–land connectivity around IKN.
  • Dr. Eng. Amry Dasar, S.T., M.Eng.
(Civil Engineering Lecturer, Universitas Sulawesi Barat)
In his presentation titled “Toward Sustainable and Eco-Material in Construction,” he explored the use of seawater and agro-industrial waste—such as rice husk ash, palm shell ash, and fly ash—as eco-friendly building materials, promoting a circular economy, freshwater conservation, and carbon emission reduction.
  • Ir. Alamsyah, S.T., M.T.
(Dean of the Faculty of Sustainable Development, ITK)
Presented “Estimation of Cargo Shifting Value on Ferry Vehicle Decks.” His research analyzed forces and moments acting on vehicles aboard ro-ro ferries to design safer and more efficient vehicle securing systems, particularly for short routes like Balikpapan–Penajam.
  • Prof. Ir. Andi Haris Muhammad, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.
(Professor of Ship Hydrodynamics, Universitas Hasanuddin)
Concluded the keynote session with “Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Ro-ro Ferries in Restricted Waters.” He emphasized the importance of hydrodynamic and propulsion system research to enhance energy efficiency and navigation safety while encouraging stronger collaboration among universities, industry, and government to boost Indonesia’s maritime competitiveness globally.

Closing and Appreciation

The event concluded with the presentation of plaques of appreciation to the speakers by Dr. Eng. Ir. Faisal Mahmuddin, S.T., M.Eng., IPM, Head of the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Systems Engineering at UNHAS, and Ir. Suardi, S.T., M.T., Head of the Department of Maritime Technology at ITK, as a token of gratitude for their valuable contributions to the advancement of maritime science and technology.

Through SNIT2EK 2025, ITK and UNHAS reaffirm their commitment to contributing to Indonesia’s maritime transformation toward a smart, green, and sustainable future capital city.
