Balikpapan – The 2026 SPIn-ETAM (Institute Introduction and Student Ethics Program) at Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) officially commenced on Monday (August 3) with an introductory session on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (PPKPT). The opening session was delivered by Indah Melati Suci, M.T., Head of the Prevention Division of ITK's Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT), providing freshmen with essential knowledge to help foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic environment. 

Carrying the theme "Creating a Safe, Inclusive, and Violence-Free Campus," the session aimed to introduce the role of the ITK PPKPT Task Force while increasing students' awareness of the various forms of violence that may occur in higher education and the importance of prevention efforts. The presentation was based on Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation (Permendikbudristek) No. 55 of 2024 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education. 

During the session, Indah Melati Suci explained that violence in higher education extends beyond physical abuse. It also includes psychological violence, bullying, discrimination, intolerance, sexual violence, and various forms of digital violence, including hate speech on social media. Freshmen were reminded of the importance of maintaining ethical behavior in both face-to-face interactions and digital communication. 

In addition to discussing the different forms of violence, the session highlighted the impacts of violence on victims and the academic community. Participants learned that prevention plays a vital role through education, anti-violence campaigns, the implementation of ethical standards in campus interactions, and strengthening the role of student organizations in promoting healthy relationships and gender equality. 

As part of the orientation, students were also introduced to the official reporting mechanism for incidents of violence on campus. Reports can be submitted through the ITK PPKPT Task Force's official reporting channel, after which they will undergo case review, investigation, recommendation, and decision-making procedures in accordance with established regulations. Throughout the process, the Task Force prioritizes the protection of victims and witnesses while ensuring that every case is handled with fairness and due diligence. 

The session also introduced freshmen to the organizational structure of the ITK PPKPT Task Force, which consists of university leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, and student representatives. The Task Force reflects ITK's commitment to creating a learning environment that is safe, comfortable, inclusive, and free from all forms of violence for every member of the university community. 

Through this opening session of SPIn-ETAM 2026, ITK hopes that new students will not only understand their rights and responsibilities as members of the academic community but also have the confidence to prevent, report, and collectively foster a culture of mutual respect on campus. This commitment aligns with the message promoted by the ITK PPKPT Task Force: "Moving Together, Safe Together. Let's Protect Our Campus from Violence."
