Balikpapan, 19 November 2025 – Another proud achievement has been earned by students of the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK). The SANDAY Team, carrying an innovative culinary product based on food-waste utilization from cempedak peel, has officially qualified as a finalist for the 2025 KMI Award and will advance to the national evaluation stage held at Universitas Tidar, Magelang.

SANDAY is a student-led culinary startup developed under the guidance of the ITK Business and Technology Incubator. Its flagship product, Sambal Manday, offers the unique flavors of East Kalimantan while promoting sustainability through the upcycling of cempedak peel as its main ingredient. The business model has been strengthened through consumer research, entrepreneurship training, and strategic digital marketing development.

In its Business Model Canvas, SANDAY highlights several value propositions, including eco-friendly packaging, affordable pricing, product variety, and easy online ordering. These strengths enabled the team to pass the KMI curation stage and earn a place at the KMI Expo & KMI Award 2025.

This accomplishment reflects the team’s dedication throughout various training programs—from branding workshops, financial management sessions, to UMKM legal reinforcement. Support from supervising lecturers and collaboration with multiple partners also played a significant role in the team’s success.

With SANDAY advancing to the 2025 KMI Award, ITK once again demonstrates its commitment to fostering young, innovative, and sustainable entrepreneurs. The SANDAY Team is scheduled to compete at the final stage of KMI Expo XVI 2025 in Magelang for the national student entrepreneurship recognition.
