Balikpapan, October 6, 2025 – Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) held an Open Session to commemorate its 11th Anniversary at the Integrated Laboratory Building Auditorium I. This celebration carried the theme “One Vision One Spirit: Rising Together for the Future”, highlighting the importance of collaboration and innovation for the nation’s future.

The event was attended by the Senate and ITK leadership, presided over by ITK Rector, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc., accompanied by Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Erma Suryani, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Non-Academic Affairs, Ir. Khakim Ghozali, M.MT., and Senior Lecturer from Mulawarman University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bohari Yusuf, M.Si., along with faculty deans, lecturers, university leaders, and other members of the academic community. The celebration also welcomed the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Balikpapan and East Kalimantan Province, as well as ITK’s industrial partners.

The session proceeded solemnly with a series of processions, starting with performances by ITK’s Nusantara Dance Student Activity Unit and Student Choir, followed by prayers, and the singing of Indonesia Raya, ITK Hymn, and March. The session was officially opened by ITK Rector, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc., who also delivered a speech reflecting on ITK’s journey as the only technological institute in Kalimantan.

In his remarks, Prof. Agus Rubiyanto outlined ITK’s progress, now with more than 5,700 students, 261 lecturers, 22 undergraduate programs, and one postgraduate program. “In just 11 years, ITK has grown significantly, actively building hundreds of national and international collaborations, and achieving various prestigious national-level awards,” he stated.

The highlight of the event was a Scientific Oration delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Bohari Yusuf, M.Si., on the theme “Advancing Higher Education and ITK’s Contribution to the Development of Nusantara Capital City and the Vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.” He emphasized the vital role of higher education institutions in Kalimantan, particularly ITK, in supporting the development of IKN (Nusantara Capital City) as a forest city, smart city, and sponge city.

As one of the key figures in ITK’s founding history, Prof. Bohari highlighted ITK’s strategic advantages: being STEM-based, geographically close to IKN, and carrying the “Borneo DNA” that deeply understands the tropical forest ecosystem and local culture. “ITK must become a trusted broker in the pentahelix collaboration among universities, government, industry, communities, and the media. ITK graduates must be equipped with human skills, digital skills, and green skills to meet global challenges,” he asserted.

As part of the celebration, ITK also launched a rebranded logo, accompanied by an award presentation to the logo design team. Awards were also given to outstanding lecturers, education staff, and students. Among the prestigious achievements highlighted were the ITK Student Choir’s gold medal at the 2025 Nusantara International Choir Folk Festival and medals won in various national and international academic and sports competitions.

ITK Rector, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc., closed the session with optimism. “The 11th Anniversary is not merely a celebration but also a momentum to strengthen ITK’s stride toward becoming an excellent, innovative, and globally competitive university, as well as a stra
