The Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) once again demonstrates its contribution to applied technological development through TROLITK, an electric material-handling trolley developed by Kholiq Deliasgarin R., S.T., M.T. and Ir. Hadhimas Dwi H., S.T., M.Eng. This innovation is designed to improve both efficiency and workplace safety in various industrial material-handling processes.

Background of the Innovation

The demand for safer and more efficient material-handling equipment continues to rise, especially with the high rate of occupational accidents in Indonesia. According to data from the Directorate General of Manpower Supervision and Occupational Safety and Health (2022), there were 28,821 workplace accident cases recorded from 2019 to 2021, affecting more than 27,000 workers.
One of the high-risk activities contributing to this number is manual material handling, particularly using conventional trolleys pushed by human force. This physical strain can lead to injuries and fatigue. Recognizing this issue, ITK researchers developed TROLITK, an electric trolley designed to reduce worker burden and enhance workplace safety.

Innovation and Development Process

TROLITK is engineered as a material-handling device powered by electricity. Using an electric motor as its main driving mechanism, the trolley moves more steadily and efficiently without requiring manual pushing.

Its development involved several stages: identifying the core problems, conducting literature studies, defining design requirements, analyzing existing products, and creating a detailed design using Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). The process then continued with prototype fabrication and functional testing to ensure the trolley's performance and safety meet industrial standards.

Contribution to Industry and Workplace Environment

Electric trolleys such as TROLITK offer significant advantages for industrial environments, including increased productivity, reduced risk of workplace injuries, and greater operational efficiency. By utilizing electrical power, this tool also supports environmentally friendly and sustainable industrial practices.

This innovation shows how practical and impactful solutions can emerge from technological development within ITK, contributing directly to worker safety and comfort.

Towards Better Work Efficiency and Safety

The development of TROLITK by Kholiq Deliasgarin R., S.T., M.T. and Ir. Hadhimas Dwi H., S.T., M.Eng. reflects ITK’s commitment to producing applicable innovations that benefit broader society. This electric trolley is expected to support safer, more efficient, and more sustainable work processes across various industrial sectors.
