Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) proudly announces its participation in the REalTalk Southeast Asia 2024 event organized by The Climate Reality Project in Bali, Indonesia, from October 8-11, 2024. This event serves as a platform to unite various ASEAN member countries in accelerating the transition to renewable energy and reducing dependence on environmentally harmful fossil fuels.
REalTalk Southeast Asia carries the theme "Changing the Narrative Towards an Empowered and Resilient Region," highlighting the severe threat of global warming facing Southeast Asian countries. The region heavily relies on fossil fuels, despite targets to increase the use of renewable energy. Currently, 66.8% of Southeast Asia's energy capacity depends on fossil fuels, and this figure is projected to rise to 88% by 2050 if no concrete actions are taken. Through this event, The Climate Reality Project, alongside the participants, aims to shift the narrative on renewable energy and advocate for the importance of transitioning to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
ITK, through its Student Chapter of the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE), has sent its best delegate, Argya Pradana, who serves as the President of the SRE Student Chapter at ITK. Alongside Inggar Pratiwi, President of the SRE SC ITB, Argya was selected based on an evaluation of his contributions to renewable energy campaigns on campus and social media. They will present on topics such as “The Renewable Energy Landscape in Indonesia” and “Renewable Energy Campaigns.” This participation demonstrates ITK’s commitment to advancing education and renewable energy campaigns while supporting the transition to more environmentally friendly energy.
REalTalk Southeast Asia serves as a forum for civil society organizations and environmental groups across ASEAN to discuss and collaborate in accelerating energy transition. The event includes panel discussions, workshops, and group sessions, enabling delegates from various countries to exchange ideas and share strategies for renewable energy campaigns. As part of the Indonesian delegation, ITK will actively participate in these sessions, showcasing the role of educational institutions in addressing global energy challenges.
At the event’s conclusion, participants will join in “Culture Night,” a cultural evening showcasing the diverse cultures and cuisines of each ASEAN member country. This activity aims to strengthen regional ties and promote a sense of unity amidst joint efforts to tackle the climate crisis. ITK’s participation in this event offers an opportunity to display Indonesia's rich cultural heritage while fostering relationships with representatives from other countries.
ITK's participation in REalTalk Southeast Asia 2024 is not only an opportunity to learn and collaborate but also a tangible demonstration of the institution’s commitment to promoting renewable energy campaigns in Indonesia. By continuously developing and supporting student initiatives through SRE, ITK hopes to become a pioneer in sustainable energy education and innovation in Kalimantan and beyond.
With strong enthusiasm and commitment, ITK is ready to be part of the narrative change towards a greener and more sustainable future.
