Balikpapan, July 2, 2025 – The Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK), through its Faculty of Sustainable Development, successfully organized a Collaboration Agreement (PKS) and Guest Lecture focused on "Application of Non-Destructive Test (NDT) Tools in Education and Research, and Career Opportunities in the NDT Field." The event took place in the Auditorium of the Integrated Laboratory Building 1 at ITK and was attended by leadership, lecturers, and hundreds of ITK students.

The Importance of NDT in Industry and Higher Education

In his opening remarks, the Vice Rector for Non-Academic Affairs at ITK emphasized that the industrial demand for Non-Destructive Test (NDT) technology is rapidly increasing. This technology is now widely applied in various fields such as Civil Engineering, Naval Architecture, Environmental Engineering, and other study programs. Therefore, an applied introduction to NDT is crucial so that students can practice it from an early stage. Furthermore, information regarding career opportunities in the NDT field was also a key point, aiming to provide a clear picture of potential careers and benefits for students, while also supporting the fulfillment of ITK's Main Performance Indicators (IKU).

Inspiring Guest Lecture from an Industry Expert

The event featured Mr. Eko Sudibjo, President Director of PT NDT Indonesia, as the main speaker. He shared in-depth insights into the practical application of NDT tools in education and research, and elaborated on the promising career opportunities in the NDT sector. The session, which ran from 08:00 to 11:45 WITA, not only provided theoretical knowledge but also motivated students to be ready for an increasingly competitive job market.

Attendees at the event included various key stakeholders, among them the Vice Rector for Non-Academic Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty of Sustainable Development, the Vice Dean for Academic and Non-Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Sustainable Development, the President Director of PT NDT Indonesia along with his Branch Manager and staff, the Heads of Laboratories within the Faculty of Sustainable Development, lecturers, and all students of the Kalimantan Institute of Technology.

New Insights and Motivation for the Future

The outcomes of this activity were very positive. Students, especially from the Faculty of Sustainable Development and generally all ITK students, gained valuable new insights related to Non-Destructive Test (NDT). Beyond theoretical understanding, they were also motivated to be better prepared for the professional world. The most engaging part was the opportunity for students to directly observe how NDT tools work, providing invaluable practical experience.

Building Industry-Academia Collaboration

This collaboration agreement and guest lecture mark an important step in enriching student knowledge and paving the way for closer cooperation between educational institutions and industry in the NDT field. It is hoped that the initiated collaboration can continue to be developed to a more advanced stage, bringing broader positive impacts for the community in general and for the Kalimantan Institute of Technology in particular.
