Balikpapan, 25 February 2026 – Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) demonstrated its strong commitment to enhancing national maritime security through its participation in the Coordination Meeting on the Identification of Strengthening Dimensions of the National Maritime Security Index (IKLN) 2026 Based on the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) in East Kalimantan Province. The event was organized by the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia at Grand Jatra Hotel Balikpapan.

The coordination meeting was attended by all regional heads/regional representatives from regencies and municipalities across East Kalimantan, as well as representatives from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (POLRI), and the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI). This strategic forum discussed potential measures and security enhancement efforts in the Indonesian Archipelagic Sea Lane II (ALKI II), a vital shipping route at both national and international levels.

As a province with a strategic maritime position, East Kalimantan plays a significant role in maintaining maritime stability and security. Strengthening the IKLN dimensions for 2026 is directed toward improving cross-sector coordination, optimizing supervision, and establishing integrated and sustainable maritime security governance.

ITK was represented directly by its Rector, Agus Rubiyanto. Accompanying him were Ir. Alamsyah, S.T., M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Sustainable Development/Lecturer in Naval Architecture, and Ir. Destyariani Liana Putri, S.T., M.T., Lecturer in Ocean Engineering. The presence of ITK’s leadership and academics reaffirmed the active role of higher education institutions in supporting maritime security policies through scientific approaches and applied research.

In line with the dimensions of the National Maritime Security Index, ITK is committed to strengthening research in the Blue Economy sector, including carbon stock studies, cost-benefit analysis, port management, marine tourism, pollution control, navigation safety, marine energy, and coastal infrastructure development. These contributions are expected to provide data-driven recommendations to support enhanced security in ALKI II while promoting sustainable maritime development.

ITK’s participation in this forum reflects the institution’s commitment to supporting the national maritime development agenda and strengthening synergy among the government, security forces, and academia to realize resilient and sustainable maritime security.
