Munich, Germany – The Bavarian Semiconductor Congress (BSC) 2024, part of the Bavarian Chips Alliance initiative, took place from June 2-6, 2024. This annual event is a significant gathering for key players in the semiconductor industry and research, particularly in chip design, in Germany. With the themes "Artificial Intelligence as an Innovation Driver for Microelectronics" and "Sustainability as an Opportunity for the Bavarian Semiconductor and Electronics Industry," this year's congress offered new insights into the role of artificial intelligence and sustainability in the semiconductor industry.
Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) was invited to participate in this prestigious event. ITK was represented by Prof. Dr. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc, Rector of ITK, and Kharis Sugiarto, SST., M.T., coordinator of the Electrical Engineering program. Prof. Rubi, one of Indonesia's chip developers, brought his innovative research to the international stage. ITK’s research in Semiconductor Circuits and Semiconductor Design, as well as the development of Semiconductor IC applications for Smart Cities, made ITK’s participation highly relevant to the congress's theme.
In addition to ITK, various other higher education and research institutions from Indonesia, such as ITB, UI, UB, ITS, UNILA, UNDIP, UNHAS, ITERA, UGM, USU, LPDP, DIKTI, and ICDEC, were also present, showcasing Indonesia's strong commitment to developing semiconductor technology.
The event began with a limited bilateral meeting with the Bavarian Minister of Economy at Die Macherei Munich, followed by various sessions at the Bavarian Semiconductor Congress 2024 and meetings with the Bavarian Chips Design Center (BCDC). Participants were also scheduled to visit Infineon Technologies AG in Regensburg and Ulm University in Ulm, gaining firsthand insights into the latest innovations and research in the semiconductor field.
The congress journey took participants to important research institutions and universities in several cities, including Universität Stuttgart, Infineon Technologies AG in Regensburg, Universität Ulm, Technische Universität Dresden, and Ferdinand Braun Institut Berlin. Each city offered a unique perspective and significant contributions to the technology and semiconductor industry, providing opportunities for learning and knowledge exchange.
The Bavarian Semiconductor Congress 2024 served as an important platform for ITK and other Indonesian institutions to expand their networks, strengthen international collaborations, and explore new opportunities in semiconductor technology research and development. With a focus on AI innovation and sustainability, the event is expected to drive significant breakthroughs in the global semiconductor industry.
Prof. Dr. Agus Rubiyanto stated, "ITK's participation in BSC 2024 is a strategic step forward in advancing research and innovation in the semiconductor field. We hope to establish closer collaborations with leading institutions in Germany and introduce our research to the international level."
By participating in this prestigious event, ITK not only strengthens its position in the international community but also demonstrates its commitment to continuous innovation and contribution to the development of sustainable semiconductor technology.
