Balikpapan — Behind the smooth operation of a shorebase, there is one main control center that ensures all processes run safely and in a well-coordinated manner: the Control Room. From this room, every activity is monitored and managed centrally—much like the “brain” of shorebase operations.
One of the key figures holding an essential role in this control center is Endah Sari, who currently serves as Supervisor of the Control Room at PT Pertamina Port & Logistic Shorebase Tanjung Batu. From the Control Room, Endah oversees, coordinates, and ensures the smooth execution of all shorebase operations that support offshore drilling activities.
A shorebase is an operational facility located along the coastline or in port areas, functioning as a logistics and onshore operations hub to support offshore activities such as oil and gas drilling, offshore construction, and energy logistics. From the shorebase, equipment, materials, and personnel are dispatched to offshore sites, while also serving as a coordination point between onshore and offshore operations.
As a Control Room Supervisor, Endah is responsible for ensuring that all shorebase operations run smoothly and safely. Her duties include:
In short, the Control Room is the heart of coordination, and Endah stands at the frontline of operational control.
Endah’s journey began at Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK). Beyond academics, she was actively involved in student organizations and campus committees. Through these experiences, she developed valuable non-technical skills that proved crucial in the workplace: adaptability, the courage to try new things, self-confidence, and strong social skills. These competencies became essential assets in navigating the dynamic and challenging world of logistics and offshore operations.
According to Endah, the academic foundation she gained in Marine Engineering at ITK is highly relevant to her current role. More importantly, ITK helped shape her adaptive mindset—the ability to quickly adjust to new conditions and responsibilities.
Endah encourages today’s ITK students to make the most of every opportunity.
“It is better to regret failing than to regret never trying. From failure, we learn what needs to be improved. But without trying, we will never know what needs to be fixed.”
The story of Endah Sari proves that a combination of technical knowledge, organizational experience, and the courage to try can open doors to strategic roles in the professional world. From ITK to the shorebase Control Room, Endah demonstrates that adaptability and a willingness to learn are the keys to surviving and thriving in one’s career.
