Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) continues to produce high-quality alumni who make tangible contributions in diverse fields, including education. One such inspiring figure is Rosa Eliviani, a graduate of the 2016 cohort of the Information Systems program, who now serves as a Lecturer in Informatics Management at Politeknik Astra. Rosa's journey from student to professional educator highlights ITK's vital role in shaping a generation ready to contribute to society.
Rosa recalls her early days at ITK as a time of great challenge. “When I first enrolled, the campus in Balikpapan had only been established for about two years. The pioneering spirit was truly palpable back then,” she shared. Despite the challenges of being part of a developing institution, Rosa believes the perseverance of ITK’s academic community laid a solid foundation for continued progress.
After graduating, Rosa pursued a career in education as a lecturer. “Almost everything I learned in the Information Systems program supports my current work,” she said. As a lecturer, her main responsibilities revolve around fulfilling the Tri Dharma of Higher Education: teaching, research, and community service.
However, working in a polytechnic environment posed unique challenges. “Teaching at a polytechnic focuses more on practice than theory. It’s both a challenge and an exciting opportunity, especially with the industry collaborations involved,” she added. Rosa finds this experience enriching and sees it as a gateway to innovation in education.
During her studies at ITK, Rosa not only gained technological expertise but also honed her leadership and communication skills through various organizational activities. “My organizational experiences greatly helped me develop soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and a positive attitude,” she noted.
Additionally, her experience as a teaching assistant during her studies provided invaluable preparation for entering the workforce. “Hard skills like coding are essential, but soft skills often set you apart in the professional world,” she remarked.
As an alumna, Rosa shares valuable advice with ITK students preparing for their futures. “A good attitude is crucial. It can even be more decisive than hard skills. Also, don’t be afraid to try new things and always appreciate the process,” she said.
Rosa Eliviani’s story is a testament to the adaptability and significant contributions of ITK alumni in various fields, especially education. With her unwavering spirit, Rosa demonstrates that success is not only measured by personal achievements but also by tangible contributions to society and the field of education.
