On December 12, 2024, the Auditorium of Building A at the Institute of Technology Kalimantan (ITK) hosted an inspiring guest lecture by the Commander of the Naval Postgraduate School (STTAL), Rear Admiral Dr. Mukhlis, S.T., M.M. The lecture, titled "Building the Character of Smart Leadership for an Excellent Generation Towards Indonesia Gold 2045", was attended by ITK students and unit leaders, who were eager to absorb the insights shared.
In his lecture, Dr. Mukhlis emphasized that every individual has the potential to be a leader. However, to be an effective and intelligent leader, one must be equipped with global awareness and an understanding of the challenges in the world. He stressed that recognizing these challenges is crucial for the younger generation that aspires to build a more advanced Indonesia by 2045.
Rear Admiral Mukhlis explained that to achieve this goal, human resources (HR) are the key. Higher education plays a significant role in shaping individuals’ character and competencies, both cognitive (hardskills) and emotional (softskills). The awareness to continuously learn, adapt, and innovate is indispensable in responding to the ever-evolving global demands.
He also highlighted the importance of giving the best of one’s potential, especially in decision-making, strategic planning, and innovation. These processes not only require intellectual intelligence but also wisdom in understanding the noble values of the nation, such as Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity). These three pillars must be the moral foundation in every leadership step.
One of the most compelling points of the lecture was the emphasis on the role of higher education as a platform for shaping future leaders who are intelligent and responsible. For Dr. Mukhlis, early self-development is the best investment in preparing an excellent generation capable of tackling the challenges of the future.
Moreover, this event opened the opportunity for ITK and STTAL to collaborate on several strategic projects, such as the development of the Balikpapan Bay area, the ALKI II shipping route, and the new capital city (IKN). This collaboration aims to strengthen Indonesia’s sovereignty and support its development in various sectors.
This thought-provoking guest lecture was not just about leadership theory but also served as a source of motivation for students to become wise and innovative leaders. With the foundation of smart leadership, they are expected to contribute to a more advanced and prosperous Indonesia by 2045, leading the nation toward a shining future—Indonesia Gold.
