Balikpapan, November 22, 2024 – The Auditorium of Building A at the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) hosted the Higher Education Literacy Seminar and ITK Library Socialization. The event was attended by ITK's academic community, students, and related parties, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and introduce the latest services from the ITK Library to support academic activities on campus.
Higher Education Literacy Seminar
The event began with a seminar led by Amira Syafana, the 2024 East Kalimantan Reading Ambassador and Education Staff at the IKN Authority. In her presentation, Amira emphasized the importance of improving literacy in higher education, especially in this digital age filled with information. She explained that literacy goes beyond just the ability to read—it is the skill to access, filter, and process information wisely.
"Improving literacy must involve all parties—students, faculty, and the university itself. In this digital age, the ability to understand and effectively use information has become a crucial skill," said Amira in her talk.
Socialization of ITK Library Services and Launch of e-Library ITK App
Following the seminar, Winarni, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the ITK Library, introduced the various services available at the ITK Library, including the launch of the new e-Library ITK app. This app is designed to make it easier for students and faculty to access library resources online, from e-books to scholarly journals.
"With the e-Library ITK app, we hope to provide convenience for the ITK academic community in accessing lecture materials, reference books, and scholarly journals anytime and anywhere," explained Winarni.
e-Library ITK App User Guide
Astri Sakina from KUBUKU continued the session by providing a detailed guide on how to use the e-Library ITK app. She gave practical tips on features such as how to search for literature, download lecture materials, and access available e-books. This guide is intended to help students and faculty maximize the app’s features for their academic needs.
Socialization of IEEE e-Journal Access
The final session presented valuable information about accessing IEEE e-journals, delivered by Deden Ramdhani, Account Executive from I-Group Indonesia. Deden explained how the ITK academic community could access the latest scholarly journals in technology and engineering through the IEEE platform, which is highly relevant for research and development in various fields.
"Access to IEEE e-journals provides great opportunities for students and faculty to stay updated with the latest scientific developments and delve into specific topics that support their research," Deden shared.
Closing
The event concluded with the hope that all participants would gain a deeper understanding of the importance of literacy, especially in an increasingly digital world. With the new facilities and services provided by the ITK Library, it is hoped that students and faculty can more easily access high-quality and relevant information to support their teaching and research activities.
Through this event, ITK continues to strengthen the role of its library as a central hub for information resources that supports the advancement of knowledge, research, and learning on campus.
