Balikpapan — The aquaponics innovation developed by students of Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) has once again achieved national recognition. The BIOFISHARVEST team has officially been selected as one of ITK’s representatives for the 2025 KMI Expo at Universitas Tidar (UNITIDAR). This accomplishment further strengthens ITK’s position as a leading campus in producing competitive young entrepreneurs.

BIOFISHARVEST is known for its modern agricultural concept that integrates fish cultivation and plant growth in one system. Using a water efficient and chemical 

free aquaponics approach, the team offers fresh, healthy, and environmentally friendly produce. The innovation aligns with national concerns regarding sustainability and food security.

“We want to present a farming model that is not only efficient but also easy for communities to adopt. This system allows fish and plants to grow synergistically in a single cycle,” said one of the team members.

Before being selected, the team went through a series of stages including business model development, cultivation trials, and production of educational content through their Instagram account @biofisharvest. These efforts became added value, showcasing their readiness in research, marketing, and business sustainability.

BIOFISHARVEST carries a strong vision: providing healthy food through a clean and efficient system while opening opportunities for collaboration with small farmers, urban farming communities, and MSMEs. Their business model includes selling fresh products, agricultural education, and potential partnerships with restaurants and local markets.

This achievement further reinforces ITK’s growing culture of innovation. In recent years, ITK students have actively participated in national competitions in technopreneurship, environment, and food security.

KMI Expo 2025 will be an important platform for finalists to present their ideas, expand networks, and compete with hundreds of young innovators from universities across Indonesia. The BIOFISHARVEST team is set to showcase their integrated aquaponics concept developed through laboratory research and field practice.

“We are not only bringing a product, but also a mission to make modern agriculture more accessible to the public,” the team added.

With BIOFISHARVEST’s advancement to the 2025 KMI Expo, ITK once again demonstrates its commitment to developing innovations that address community needs motivating more students to create solutions for future environmental and food challenges.
