Balikpapan – Digital transformation has fundamentally changed the way people access financial services. Behind every intuitive banking application lies an extensive process of research, collaboration, and problem-solving. This is the daily reality for Aditya Osama Hakim Efendy, a 2019 Information Systems alumnus of the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK), who now works as a UI/UX Designer & Researcher at PT Bank Hibank Indonesia (BNI Group).

Designing Experiences, Not Just Interfaces

For Aditya, being a UI/UX Designer is about far more than creating visually appealing interfaces. His primary responsibility is to ensure that every user enjoys a seamless, intuitive, and meaningful experience when interacting with digital banking services.

"In today's digital era, ensuring a great customer experience in every transaction is essential. We need to make sure customers achieve their goals while also ensuring that business objectives are successfully met," he explained.

In his day-to-day work, Aditya designs user interfaces using Figma, collaborates with technical teams to translate product requirements into implementable solutions, and aligns product design strategies with the company's marketing objectives.

Understanding Problems Before Finding Solutions

Behind every feature in a digital application lies a complex analytical process. According to Aditya, one of the most valuable lessons he learned during his studies at ITK was the importance of defining problems accurately before proposing solutions.

He believes that many people rush into offering solutions without fully understanding the root causes. In reality, the success of a digital product depends largely on understanding users' needs and the challenges they face.

Moreover, the rapid pace of technological advancement has made continuous learning an indispensable skill. As software evolves and artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into digital products, professionals must remain adaptable and committed to lifelong learning.

Communication as the Foundation of Collaboration

As part of a multidisciplinary product development team, Aditya works closely with engineers, product managers, and marketing professionals. Consequently, effective communication has become one of the most essential skills in his career.

He believes that even the best ideas will have little impact if they cannot be communicated clearly to stakeholders. Critical thinking is equally important, enabling professionals to evaluate multiple alternatives, anticipate potential consequences, and make decisions that benefit both users and the business.

Memorable Moments from University Life

Despite his busy professional career, Aditya still cherishes one of his most memorable experiences at ITK—working alongside his classmates to complete their final projects.

He believes that every student follows a different journey toward graduation, facing unique challenges and timelines. However, the spirit of mutual support among classmates made the experience truly meaningful.

"Although we each crossed the finish line at different times, in the end, we all made it together."

For Aditya, this experience taught him that success is not about who reaches the finish line first, but about having the perseverance to keep moving forward until the goal is achieved.

Contributing to the Development of Hi by Hibank's Design System

One of Aditya's proudest career achievements has been earning the trust to contribute to the strategic direction of the company's digital products.

Today, he is responsible for developing the design system for several digital products at PT Bank Hibank Indonesia, including the Hi by Hibank mobile banking application. His role ensures design consistency, accelerates feature development, and delivers a more cohesive and user-friendly digital experience.

This responsibility reflects the growing importance of systematic thinking, collaboration, and adaptability—competencies that are increasingly valued in today's digital industry.

A Message for ITK Students

As the interview concluded, Aditya encouraged ITK students to make the most of their university years. He emphasized that meaningful learning extends beyond the classroom through student organizations, collaborative projects, competitions, and the professional networks built during college.

"Make the most of your university experience, build as many connections as possible, and never let valuable opportunities pass you by. When you're pursuing something meaningful, be prepared for the sacrifices that come with it."

Aditya Osama Hakim Efendy's journey demonstrates that professional success is built not only upon technical expertise but also on the ability to understand problems, embrace continuous learning, collaborate effectively, and seize every opportunity. Guided by these values, ITK alumni continue to contribute meaningful innovations across various industries, including Indonesia's rapidly evolving digital banking sector.
