Balikpapan - Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) held a ceremony to commemorate National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026 on Monday, May 4, 2026, in a solemn and vibrant atmosphere. Although National Education Day is officially observed on May 2, the ceremony at ITK was conducted on the following working day as a form of respect for educational values and national spirit.
The ceremony was attended by the academic community, including university leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, and students, and was carried out in an orderly manner in accordance with the established protocol. All participants wore designated attire ranging from traditional and national dress for invited guests, student uniforms, to black-and-white formal wear for lecturers and staff enhancing the formal and respectful ambiance of the event.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the Indonesian national flag, accompanied by the national anthem “Indonesia Raya,” followed by a moment of silence to honor the nation’s heroes. A deep sense of reflection was felt as participants paid tribute to the sacrifices of those who came before.
The program continued with the recitation of Pancasila and the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, as well as the conferment of the Satyalancana Karya Satya award to staff members in recognition of their dedication and service.
The 2026 National Education Day carries the theme “Strengthening Collective Participation to Achieve Quality Education for All,” emphasizing that education is a shared responsibility of all elements of society.
In the official address, it was highlighted that amid global challenges such as technological disruption, climate change, and social dynamics, education remains a key strategic solution in addressing national issues. Collaboration among government, higher education institutions, industry, and society is essential to deliver inclusive, adaptive, and impactful education.
This ceremony serves not only as an annual commemoration but also as a moment of reflection for the entire ITK academic community that education is not merely about knowledge transfer, but about shaping character and the future of the nation.
