Anggara Kurniawan, Muhammad Raflie Noor Risqi, and Achmad Maulana Kusnadi, Information Systems students, alongside guidance from Arif Wicaksono Septyanto, S.Kom M.Kom, have achieved a commendable feat by securing third place at BMC GEDFEST 5.0: GenBI Education Festival 2024. They collaborated under their team name, RECRAFT, with a clear goal: “Building Creativity and Business Spirit Among Students Through Technology.”

The team went beyond merely participating in the festival; they are thoughtful innovators concerned with environmental issues. They are acutely aware of the urgency of the waste problem in Indonesia, particularly highlighted by data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) for 2022. This data shows that out of a total national waste production of 21.1 million tons, only 65.71% is effectively managed, leaving the remainder as unresolved challenges.

Recognizing the need for innovative and efficient solutions, the RECRAFT team developed a brilliant idea: creating an application that sells high-quality products made from recycled waste. This concept not only helps reduce the amount of waste that is discarded but also promotes broader recycling practices.

Their application is not just a business venture but also an educational tool. It aims to raise public awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and recycling practices. The team hopes that the application will serve not only as a trading platform but also as a means to shift public perception about waste.

The success of the RECRAFT team at BMC GEDFEST 5.0 is a clear testament to the significant potential of students to create positive societal change. With their innovative vision, they offer hope for a greener and more sustainable future. Their inspiring story is a call to action for more people to join efforts in environmental protection and sustainable development.
