Getting to Know IEEE: The Global Organization Driving Technology

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest non-profit technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology. Founded in New York, USA, IEEE has been present in Indonesia since February 16, 1988. Its primary objective is to engage exclusively in scientific and educational activities.

The organization encompasses numerous engineering fields, focusing on developing and applying industry standards while fostering new technological advancements in areas like telecommunications, computer networks, electrical engineering, and electronics. IEEE also plays a vital role in creating technical standards, publishing a wide range of publications, and hosting over 2,000 conferences and events in 190 countries annually.

Globally, IEEE boasts more than 460,000 members in over 190 countries, with over 66% residing outside the United States. It includes more than 171,000 student members and 3,635 student branches across universities in over 100 countries. The IEEE Xplore® Digital Library is home to over 6 million documents, and the organization publishes more than 200 transactions, journals, and magazines.

IEEE ITK Student Branch: A Student Hub for Technological Innovation

The IEEE ITK Student Branch is a technology and engineering-based student organization at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK). This branch was founded on December 17, 2024, by Zahrah Salsabila, who served as its first Founder and Chairwoman. The branch was established under the guidance of lecturer Bapak Adi Mahmud Jaya Marindra, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., along with 11 students from the Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, and Informatics study programs.

As a part of IEEE, the IEEE ITK Student Branch aims to create a collaborative and innovative learning environment. The organization focuses on expanding students' knowledge of current technology and supports its members in developing both soft-skills and hard-skills. Through various programs, the IEEE ITK Student Branch provides students with opportunities to think critically, creatively, and innovatively in developing new technologies.

The organization's vision is to be an inspiring platform that nurtures student talent and plays an active role in technological innovation at both the national and international levels. This vision is supported by four core missions:

  • To enhance members' understanding of technological advancements.
  • To facilitate connections through a global technical community to improve students' knowledge, competence, and experience.
  • To support the professional and technical skill development of students to meet future technological challenges.
  • To disseminate the latest information and knowledge on technological developments through educational activities and publications.
