Who says electric cars are only for leisurely drives or energy efficiency? At the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK), electric cars are taken for high-speed laps on the racetrack.

Introducing Enggang Formula, the first electric racing car from Kalimantan that successfully showcased its capabilities at the Indonesian Electric Car Competition (KMLI). This event is more than just a contest; it's an annual "Olympics" for electric cars across Indonesia, held at Politeknik Negeri Bandung.

Enggang: More Than Just Wheels and Electricity

Enggang is not the work of a major manufacturer but the result of hard work by students and lecturers from ITK's Mechanical Engineering Department, organized under the Enggang EV student organization. They developed this car with full dedication, from chassis design, electric drive systems, to track testing. Their mission is clear: to realize sustainable, environmentally friendly, and of course, fast mobility.

Enggang comes in two variants:

  • Enggang Formula – A four-wheeled racing car that participated in KMLI, focusing on speed and performance.
  • Enggang Proto – A three-wheeled vehicle competing in the Energy-Efficient Car Contest (KMHE), aiming for efficiency and battery endurance.

Both demonstrate that green technology is not just about going green but also about going fast.

From Workshop to Racetrack

Proudly, Enggang Formula is the first electric formula-style racing car from Kalimantan to compete in a national competition. This is not just a technical achievement but also a historic milestone. Imagine: from a campus in Balikpapan, an electric racing car emerged that could compete with major universities in Java!

Even after the competition, the car isn't just stored away. It is sometimes used for educational purposes, recreation, and even serves as an eye-catching showpiece on the ITK campus. So, if you see a cool little car cruising around campus, it might just be Enggang taking an afternoon drive.

More Than Just Racing

But Enggang is not just about winning races. More than that, this project serves as a real learning space. Students gain hands-on experience with batteries, aerodynamics, mechanical design, and project management. Collaboration with lecturers also makes the research and development process more directed and impactful.

Enggang proves that local innovation from Kalimantan can compete at the national level. And who knows, if continuously developed, it could become a pioneer of future electric vehicles originating from Eastern Indonesia.

So, are you ready to support Enggang to soar higher?

Because from Kalimantan, we prove: electric cars are not the future; they are here, now, and speeding ahead.
