Balikpapan – Throughout 2025, the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (Institut Teknologi Kalimantan/ITK) has continued to demonstrate its strategic role as a public university committed to delivering tangible impacts on society and national development. Achievements across education, research, governance, community engagement, collaboration, as well as national and international accomplishments, mark ITK’s growing maturity as a center for science and technology development in Kalimantan, particularly in supporting the development of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara (IKN).
ITK’s commitment to addressing the nation’s strategic challenges is reflected in the active involvement of its leadership in both national and international forums. One significant milestone was the participation of the Rector of ITK, Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Agus Rubiyanto, M.Eng.Sc., as part of the delegation of the National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia (Lemhannas RI) in the Overseas Strategic Study (Studi Strategis Luar Negeri/SSLN) of the Regular Education Program (PPRA) XXVI Year 2025 in Vietnam. During the program, Prof. Agus served as Head of the Delegation and Moderator in an official meeting with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) of Vietnam, underscoring the vital role of academia in educational diplomacy, innovation, and the strengthening of national resilience.
At the national level, ITK also actively participated in policy discussions with the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) concerning the urgency of energy transition and climate change mitigation. This engagement highlights ITK’s position as an academic institution that is responsive to global challenges and aligned with the sustainable development agenda and the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.
In the education sector, ITK implemented an inclusive and integrity-driven student admission process. The UTBK–SNBT 2025 examination was conducted safely and smoothly under strict supervision. Through SPIN ETAM 2025 and the ITK Open House, thousands of prospective students gained comprehensive insights into academic programs, campus facilities, and personal development opportunities at ITK.
Academic quality enhancement was further realized through public lectures, international guest lectures, and the development of postgraduate programs. The year 2025 marked an important milestone with the strengthening of the Master’s Program in Technology Management (Magister Manajemen Teknologi/MMT), designed to meet the demand for professional human resources capable of bridging technology, industry, and policy. To broaden access to higher education, ITK initiated fully funded scholarship schemes and submitted the MMT Program for inclusion in the LPDP Scholarship scheme, reinforcing ITK’s commitment to inclusive and competitive postgraduate education.
Institutionally, ITK recorded notable achievements in 2025. The university received an award for achieving the Key Performance Indicators (Indikator Kinerja Utama/IKU) 2024, and earned six national awards at the Diktisaintek Awards 2025. ITK also successfully maintained its status as an Informative Public Body, reflecting a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and public information disclosure. In line with governance strengthening, ITK continued to advance preparations to become a Public Service Agency (Badan Layanan Umum/BLU), a strategic step aimed at enhancing financial management flexibility, service quality, and long-term institutional sustainability.
To improve the quality of learning and research, ITK actively participated in various government-funded grant programs. Priority was given to enhancing both the quantity and quality of infrastructure, particularly through the development of academic buildings, laboratories, and supporting facilities. These efforts form part of ITK’s strategy to accommodate student growth and the establishment of new academic programs.
The achievements of ITK’s academic community further strengthened the institution’s reputation. ITK lecturers attained national and international recognition, including the Young Researcher Award 2025, while students excelled in prestigious competitions such as POMNAS, KMI Expo, and various innovation, research, arts, and sports events. In terms of collaboration, ITK expanded its partnerships with universities, industries, state-owned enterprises, and international partners from China, Vietnam, and Germany. These collaborations reinforced ITK’s ecosystem of education, research, and innovation, affirming its openness and adaptability to global dynamics.
As an impact-oriented campus, ITK translated knowledge into practice through diverse community engagement programs. Initiatives ranging from digital literacy training and entrepreneurship mentoring to clean water management education and local community capacity building demonstrate ITK’s commitment to addressing real societal needs across Kalimantan.
As 2025 draws to a close, the Kalimantan Institute of Technology reaffirms its commitment to continuous growth as an impact-driven university, in line with the spirit of Diktisaintek Berdampak. With increasingly robust governance, strengthened infrastructure, expanded access to scholarships, and active engagement at both national and international levels, ITK is well positioned to enter its next phase—developing high-quality human resources and contributing meaningfully to Kalimantan’s development and Indonesia’s journey toward Indonesia Emas 2045.
