The Institute of Technology Kalimantan (ITK) is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming campus environment for all, including individuals with disabilities. As part of this effort, ITK organized a Sign Language Indonesia (BISINDO) training for staff members from various units, including Security, the Rectorate, ULT, Public Relations, and Student Affairs. The primary goal of this activity is to strengthen the capacity of staff to provide equal and responsive services to all campus users, especially individuals with disabilities.
The training is organized in collaboration with Komunitas SemuTBPN, a community focused on developing communication skills for people with disabilities and the wider public. The BISINDO training aims to provide staff with basic sign language knowledge, especially for those who directly interact with students and staff, particularly in the context of public services on campus. This training takes place over five days, with the curriculum divided into several sessions to help participants better understand and practice sign language. Participants are taught the fundamentals of sign language and how to use it in various everyday and campus-related contexts.
Through this training, ITK demonstrates its commitment to providing friendly, equal, and accessible services to all, without exception. This initiative also aligns with ITK's vision of becoming an academic institution that is not only excellent in the field of education but also cares about diversity and equality.
By offering sign language training, ITK aims to empower staff to communicate more effectively and empathetically with students and other academic members who may have specific needs. This is an important step toward creating a more inclusive and responsive environment, where everyone feels valued and treated equally, with no one left behind.
After completing the training, ITK hopes that the staff members who participated will continue to develop their sign language skills and apply them in their daily interactions on campus. Additionally, this training is part of ITK's ongoing efforts to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of accessibility for people with disabilities, as well as to create a more inclusive, welcoming, and equal campus environment for everyone.
By continually supporting the development of inclusive communication skills, ITK aims to set an example for other educational institutions in creating services that are truly accessible to the entire community, regardless of physical condition or communication ability. This initiative serves as a model for fostering a campus culture where accessibility and inclusion are central to the institution's mission.
